Not all sessions have to be done at a park. There are so many locations where you and your boo can pick to have a more fun, meaningful and comfortable engagement session. It’s always a good idea to do something unique and memorable. Here are 20 creative shoot locations you can have so much fun in, while capturing the most romantic photos:


1. Beach 

If your idea of heaven involves sandy toes and the sound of crashing waves, then book it to the beach for an action-packed session Don't be afraid to dive in and get wet! Pick a weekday so it won't be as crowded as the weekend and schedule your photos to be taken during the "golden hour" before sunset for optimal lighting.


2. Lake

A lakefront setting imparts a dreamy, ethereal vibe to your engagement portraits. There are a variety of ways to incorporate the lake into your session! You can get a canoe or play around the edge of the water or use the pier. You can definitely get some romantic shots at a lake!


3. Vineyard

Natural elegance! That’s what vineyards remind me of. You can keep it classy, add a nice bohemian vibe to it or just have fun in nature!


4. Botanical Garden or Park

Another natural fun location! Obsessed with flowers? Visit a nearby arboretum, botanical garden, or park for breathtaking photo ops.


5. Top of a Mountain

This option is definitely not for the fainthearted. Get your hearts racing and adrenaline pumping. Mountaintop engagement photos are ideal for the couple who enjoys hiking and staying active together. In general, wear comfortable clothes and shoes if your shoot location will include a lot of walking. You can always pack extra clothes to change into when you get to your spot.


6. Sand Dunes

This is an amazing option for engagement photos that were anything but ordinary! As the sun went down, the landscape becomes that much more surreal.


7. Carousel or Carnival

This is for the fun-loving couple who haven’t forgotten their childhood! Amazing shots can be taken when riding the merry-go-round, shooting water pistols for the chance to win a prize, or soaring into the air on a Ferris Wheel.


8. Art Murals

Plan your engagement photo session around beautiful works of art in your community. A backdrop this animated adds pizzazz to pics and even serves as inspiration for your poses.


9. Sports Stadium

Show off your team pride with a sports-themed session!


10. Observatory or Rooftop

There are so many locations that can offer a great view of your city’s skyline and more. You can always head to the top of a parking lot, visit a rooftop bar or for those who love science, you can have your shoot at an observatory and end up at its rooftop. An equally stunning alternative: Head to a hotel rooftop or building with scenic views of your city of choice.


11. Private Mansion or Castle

Classy. Elegant. Luxury. ROYAL! That’s would be the theme of this engagement session. If this is what you’re going for, a session at a mansion/castle would be your best bet.

A bridge overlooking the either a lake or even your city’s skyline always provides a magnificent view for your photos.


13. Pumpkin Patch

Nothing says "fall" like a trip to the pumpkin patch or apple orchard. This is an especially creative shoot idea for the months of October/November. Add some magic of the season to your session!


14. Christmas Tree Farm

Still on embracing the season’s theme: The holidays are the most wonderful time of the year — add festive cheer to your engagement photos by basing your shoot around hanging ornaments on your Christmas tree, visiting a tree farm, or taking advantage of the lights and decorations in your area


15. Ski Slope

Are you and your groom avid snowboarders or skiers? Hit the slopes and show off your best moves!


16. Ice Skating Rink

Do you and your boo love skating? Did you meet on the ice? A skating rink is another fun way to show off your moves and shoot at a meaningful location to you both.


17. Place of Work

If you're passionate about what you do for a living, consider honoring your profession in your engagement shoot. This is extremely unique (as you can imagine not everyone would choose to have their engagement session at their place of work) but it can turn into another meaningful shoot.


18. School

This is another great idea for high school/college sweetheart. Taking it back to where it all began is a great way to tell your love story.


19. At Home

A big draw of scheduling your session at a private residence is that you can include a variety of props and outfit changes, while doing the activities that feel most natural to your everyday schedule (watch TV in bed, make breakfast together, etc.), giving your pics an authentic and ultra-intimate feel.


20. Favorite Store/Restaurant/Coffee Shop

Is there a place where you and boo go to for all your dates? Are you both coffee addicts? Are you both from the same town and have a favorite store back home? Any of these places could be a great location to have your session. It already has so many shared memories for you both so you’d naturally feel at home.
