Getting engaged is one of the most exciting moments of a couple's time in their relationship. It marks the beginning of your always-and-forever story. You've finally found the person you are going to be with for the rest of your life, and it’s important to capture the excitement and love of this time. So, when it comes to your engagement session, feeling good and looking great have to go hand in hand! I’m here to help you brides-to-be create the picture-perfect look. Asides from having a fun session, you want to be able to look at your photos and smile – everything has to be perfect!
Photos from your engagement session will probably be framed in your homes, put up on social media or used for your save the dates and other wedding stationary. Point is, a lot of people are going to see these photos and you don’t want for there to be any major flaws.
So, here are my top 5 hair and makeup tips to get you through your engagement session:
1. Be comfortable
As much as you want to look like a million bucks in your photos, it is still very important you are comfortable. Discomfort can be very noticeable in photos! Do not use any products you are unfamiliar with, and do not use too much products on your hair or face so you don’t feel heavy during your session. Go for what works for you, what expresses your real self and makes you confident!
2. Don’t sweat it
The engagement session is a more casual setting. Hair shouldn't be overly styled (adds to your comfort level). Soft curls or a fresh blowout is always a timeless and great option. Wearing a wig is also a good option especially if the weather isn’t in your favor. But whatever you choose, remember that this session is for you to have FUN!
3. New is always better
Get a fresh blowout or style for the session.Even though you aren’t overthinking, it is always a good option to have a fresh style in your engagement session. This just makes your photos come out more professional and beautiful. It’s always a good idea to work with your wedding make-up artist or hairstylist on this so that you can familiarize yourself with the person.
4. Kill 2 Birds with One Stone
If you do have a wedding makeup artist or hairstylist, there’s a very high chance you’d have a trial session with them to practice your wedding look. It’s always better to book your hair and makeup trial on the same day as your engagement session so you’d be dolled up for your shoot and you won’t have to worry about doing your hair and makeup yourself.
5. Consider the weather
Remember to check the weather the morning of your session. If it’s going to be hot/humid outside, you wouldn’t want sticky hair or runny makeup. Likewise, if it’s windy outside, a nice up-do would work to ensure you don’t have stray hair flying around in your photos.
